So, onto the first piece of news and this is quite intriguing, If you have played unreal tournament or any game using the unreal game engine then you want to hear this: the FBI and other US government agencies have decided to license the game engine and to use this game engine to train agents in combat! That sounds amazingly cool and fun so I'll keep you guys updated

Raspberry pi's have come under fire after the problem with the wrong jack being attached to the circuit board another problem has been unveiled and buyers will have to face further delays with receiving their pi's which is becoming a problem as more and more and I feel sorta glad right now that I didn't get one but I hope it gets better because I WANT ONE!

Next we have some RIM news, this from the makers of blackberry and they are deciding that after 1st quarter losses to concentrate on the corporate side of the market and not the average consumers and this is bad news to everyone that wanted a smartphone and also wanted to have a keyboard they've decided that Android and Apple are putting up too much competition so they're bailing out.
Question of the day: what will you be doing to replace your blackberry when it dies?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608618115239514783.post-38148605164583695222012-03-29T20:00:00.000+01:002012-03-30T18:59:42.188+01:00A Month of Bad MoviesMaybe I should rephrase that. A Month of Movies that in my Opinion are Awful. Every Tuesday in April, I will be reviewing movies that I don't enjoy. I have been only reviewing movies that I liked, so I think it's time for me to show that I don't always give high-praising reviews.

The first bad movie I will be reviewing is-

The Adventures of Shark-boy and Lavagirl

Please remember that this is just my opinion, and I am by no means an expert on movies.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608618115239514783.post-80693673622036539082012-03-28T20:00:00.000+01:002012-03-28T20:01:45.769+01:00TweetBot

Brief Synopsis- In the future, America is separated into twelve districts called Panem. Each year, every district brings forth two young citizens to compete in The Hunger Games. It is a fight to the death until there is only one left. Katniss must fight to live or she will never see her family again. Peeta wants to fight for Katniss' life. Having to always be prepared to fight, they will do anything it takes to win.

Book Review- This book is really fun and suspenseful. It has a great plot and interesting characters. Because of The Hunger Games becoming so popular, there are dystopian fiction novels wherever you look. The Uglies series came long before The Hunger Games though, and I find the Uglies books to be more compelling than THG. I finished this book in less than a day and couldn't put it down. If you are interested in it, you should read it.

My Rating- 7 out of 10

Movie Review- The casting in this movie is beyond amazing (except for Gale). Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss and she is so amazingly perfect in that role, I can't imagine anyone else playing her. I also really enjoyed the characters of Cinna, Effie, Haymitch and Seneca Crane (and don't forget the girl from Orphan!). Josh Hutcherson was good, but I just can't help but always see the boy from Bridge to Terabithia when I look at him, not some teen heartthrob. Now on to Gale, I thought he was not the right choice at all. If you look up who was also seriously considered, Drew Roy is on the list who you probably don't know but if you look him up you will know why I wish they had cast him. The camera work in it was really great and different, I really thought they did a great job with that. The special effects are crazy too. I don't recommend seeing this before you read the book because you won't understand anything. It will please fans of the book like me, and hopefully get people to read the book if they haven't.

My Rating- 9 out of 10

Mini Rant- Listen all of you Twihards. This is NOT Twilight. There are NOT teams. Quit saying you are Team Peeta or Team Gale. It's not a love story. I'm Team Stop Being Annoying.

Let's get into this and the first piece of news is to do generally with smartphones. This is about a study made showing that free apps use up more battery than paid app because of adverts most free apps used adverts not only battery life was used up but so was a bit of data so if you have a small data cap you have to be careful! in studies it was shown that adverts took up to 75% of battery life compared to the app itself! Verdict? It's worth spending a little bit more to get the non advertised version most adverts have as it will save you lots of money in the long term!

Magnetic tattoos that also vibrate to give you alerts about your phone? Crazy or what? This has been put forward my Nokia in a patent that read:

"Examples of... applications may be low battery indication, received message, received call, calendar alert, change of profile, eg based on timing, change of time zone, or any other,"

I personally think that: A) all these patent rows are getting annoying B) Who would be this erm.... CRAZY?!?! Well I guess it's down to personal choice but it's not for me.

Meanwhile, back in England, as we know this year London are hosting the Olympics and there have been fears that the wifi to be provided at the Olympic venues will be unable to cope with all the tourists coming from around the world for not only the Olympic but for the tourist hotspots as well. I personally thing that the government and the service providers will need to pull it out of the hat to get a fast and reliable service to everyone this summer at, or around the Olympics.

The last piece of news this week is that google have submitted the idea of weather based advertising as well as your position and what you buy etc. I think this will be very useful because if you need an umbrella whilst it's raining you will be able to know thanks to an advertisement.

Well this has been an action (and patent) filled week so thank you for reading and I end with the question of : Do you think the "vibrating Tattoo" will take off and if so will you be getting one? Comment below!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608618115239514783.post-52807217238330373252012-03-22T20:00:00.000+00:002012-03-22T21:50:34.651+00:00Gia- Movie Review

Brief Synopsis- Gia Marie Carangi was the first supermodel ever. She came on to the scene faster than a lightning bolt, and disappeared even faster than that. She discovered the world of drugs and became completely consumed by them. She died at age 26 of AIDS. But what she did in her short life will live forever.

My Review- This movie is fantastic. It is very moving and brings forth a story that isn't as well known as it should be. Angelina Jolie is honestly one of the best actresses of this generation and her performance in this film is perfect. I should warn you though, this movie is not for all ages (this means you Alfie) as it deals with extremely mature subjects and very adult images. But if you are looking for a movie that is similar to Black Swan, this is a great one.

Ahh yes, Formula 1 "The pinnacle of motor sports" as said by Martin Brundle one of the greatest commentators of all time. This is for all those people that enjoy watching Formula 1 but are unable to watch it on TV for whatever reason.

Pros: This app is very detailed, it is AMAZING to look at because of everything being 3D, you can follow either the driver or a corner of the track, you can zoom different parts of the track and you get many stats like wind speed and track temperature.

Cons: this app is expensive at £19.99 ($28.99), sometimes the map blacks out requiring a complete restart of the app and sometimes it lags (probably more due to wifi though).

Overall this is a good app but is priced ridiculously but if you don't mind paying that little bit extra, it is very worth it if you have good wifi.
25 million, is that a big number to you? This game was app 25 million so it better be good because today is our first (and probably last) game review. Wanna know why? I will discuss why on Fridays live show and on Mondays blog post I will be putting those reasons to you guys and I hope for what anyone not at the live stream to share their thoughts.

Anyway, into the review. This is a simple game and all you do is dig through mud, collect rubber ducks and give croc the water so he can shower.

Pros: This is one of the simplest yet most addictive games i've ever played, it can be good to teach young people about problem solving as there are a few difficult levels, has a simple Ui and is cheap at 69p (99 cents).

Cons: This game is a bit too simplistic for my liking, most levels are easy, some people are complaining that there aren't enough levels, there's no storyline and to be honest I think this game is aimed at 5 year olds.

Overall this is a good game but not for yourself, this game is for your kids if they like this kind of thing but I think, even they might not like it.
Let's get cracking!

First a quick bit of Apple news and that is that other the fact that the new iPad and the new Apple TV are both coming out today the 25 millionth app was downloaded and it was the game "Where's My Water?" this will be the first (and last) game we will review and will be linked once done as it was the 25 millionth app.

Out of Apple news, I always find hacking something that is very interesting and although it's illegal, I sometimes wonder if it is done to express how people are feeling to everyone all at the same time. I am NOT saying hacking is good as it definitely is NOT legal. But on this subject there has been a few bits of news. Firstly, a week or so ago a hacking group was hacked, But more importantly Anonymous a hacking group apparently released an OS for computers based on linux which you can download here. Why am I talking about this? The authorities have been warning that it may contain viruses etc. So if you do download this be VERY careful with it! Also the "Official" Anonymous group have said nothing about this OS so be extra careful!

In tech news people in the UK will want to know about, Tesco had a glitch on their website advertising the new iPad for just £49.99 (Approximately $78) which for the new iPad is slightly cheap, they have said the

"We like to offer our customers unbeatable value, but unfortunately this is an IT error that is currently being corrected."

Meaning it wasn't meant to happen and no one had their money taken from them so it will be fixed with no problems.

Another thing happening in the UK and that is that by the end of this year we might get 4G! This will be provided by Everything Everywhere (yes that is the name of the company) and is set to be initiated in may meaning there isn't much longer to wait! Be ready for it because this means that we will all have faster connection to the world around us and better still we will go though data like crazy!

More awesome news for our final report this week and it's that a company in the UK has managed to make a printer that un-prints text! Now some of you might recall that Toshiba have a laser printer that can be erase but it requires special "e-blue" ink to work. This new technology works on pretty much any kind of printer and works by heating up the toner until it gets vaporised leaving only a faint outline which is pretty cool! This means that instead of recycling you just un-print paper and you can use it again!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608618115239514783.post-25658972711499954592012-03-15T20:00:00.000+00:002012-03-15T23:12:02.895+00:00Uglies (by Scott Westerfeld)- Book Review
While trying to sneak into New Pretty Town, Tally meets Shay. Shay knows why people become pretty and what happens to them when they do. Tally soon is escaping with Shay to an unknown beyond but she is caught and must make a choice. What she chooses, changes her life forever.

My Review- This book series is just as good if not better than The Hunger Games. It is so suspenseful and is definitely a page-turner. There are so many shocking twists, that are incredibly mind-blowing. I highly recommend the Uglies books if you are looking for a book series kind of like The Hunger Games. For both girls and guys, this book and series is a must-read.

My Rating- 9.5 out of 10Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608618115239514783.post-71112227223663317892012-03-14T20:00:00.000+00:002012-03-15T08:02:03.079+00:00Human Hotspots - Should They Happen? So homeless people are being turned into wifi hotspots. The question we are tackling today is whether or not this should be allowed to happen and I will argue both side of the case to the best of my ability.

Now I'm going to start with the positive argument and the main argument is that this gives homeless people some money and something to do so if you have time or have run over your data cap you can give some change to a homeless person which helps them but then they give you the wifi password meaning you get something in return. Also it was recommended that people paid £1.30 ($2) for 15 minutes of wifi meaning the homeless would possibly get a lot of money out of this and it raises awareness. People are saying also that some homeless people have nothing better to do and will make money and also if there are no health risks, what's wrong with that?

This plan doesn't come without its fair share of flaws. People are saying that this plan turns the homeless into tools for internet and turns them into "walking slaves" meaning they are just on the sidelines and some people predict they will be seen as a service provider and not a homeless person. They are also potentially more prone to getting beaten up because they have something relatively valuable and the homeless are easy to steal from (not that i have any experience).

These are just my view points and if you feel differently please comment below and I will put it under consideration when I think this through again!

My review- What a surprise; another movie from the Best Picture showcase. (It won't be the last one either). I was lucky enough to see this movie in 3D which is how it was originally shot and how it deserves to be seen. The visuals in this film are fantastic and the effects are just as amazing. One of my favorite performances though, was Sasha Baron Cohen's. He was so hilarious and brought a lot to the movie. One of the greatest things about the film is that it tells people about the history of filmmaking and about one of the pioneers of it all. I am probably one of the few teenagers who actually knew who Georges Méliès was before seeing him portrayed in Hugo. The whole experience though, is magical and I can't wait to see it again.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608618115239514783.post-73994373650718112792012-03-12T20:00:00.000+00:002012-03-12T20:00:02.548+00:00Sleep Talk Recorder

Do you talk in your sleep? Well find out with this app. This app has taught me about my midnight conversations that go on and on and on. This is one of the creepiest, funniest and most amazing apps ever.

Pros: this app works by sound detection and it records those certain parts which means there isn't 1 long sound track you have to listen through, it is easy to use, it is cheap at £0.69 ($0.99), you can favorite recording and share them on Facebook and Twitter.

Cons: Due to the nature of how the app works it sometimes false fires as such, it can be creepy when you hear random stuff go on whilst you're asleep, doesn't work for everyone, speech sometimes gets cut off.

Overall this is a good app that with a few minor improvements would be up there as one of the most ridiculous but fun apps of all time.
The new iPad has many changes and is the main feature on this new Friday post: Friday Tech News Roundup.

So let's discuss the new iPad. Firstly it is called not the iPad 3 or the iPad HD it is "The New iPad" that is all that it has been referred to as. Secondly it has 1 million more pixels than a HD TV making the new iPad 2048X1536 pixels, a truly amazing image. The battery life is the same as the iPad 2 had at 10 hours and it has a new A5X quad-core processor. It has a new 5 mega pixel iSight (rear facing) camera capable of 1080p HD video and because of the fact it has 5 lenses one of which being an IR filter, Photos and videos will look truly amazing. Are you in America? If you are you will be able to get a version on the iPad with 4G LTE. They are also giving you a dictation feature but as far as I am aware, there will be no SIRI on the iPad.

Whilst they unveiled the iPad Apple decided to launch another product. The new Apple TV will get an A5 processor and will be able to handle 1080p resolution video. There will also be an accompanying software update so you can stream the 1080p Video.

Staying with Apple for one last piece of news (must have been a busy week for Apple). They have released IOS 5.1 with just mainly bug fixes but also has : Japanese SIRI support, permanent camera shortcut, face detection on camera shows all faces, new camera app for iPad and battery life fixes.

I think that's enough Apple news. Let's get onto something else and let's start with Google. Google have recently released their new service called Google Play. This is pretty much the IOS App Store but with music and movies in it too and not a separate store. This service is also an online service so you can view the full store on any web browser and the link is play.google.com. I used this service a little bit and I love how amazingly simple and multi-platform supported service this is and I think this will probably be a service to look out for as they also have their own version of iCloud.

That's about it this week so join us next Friday for another addition of the Friday Tech News Roundup!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608618115239514783.post-77585735316887241762012-03-08T20:00:00.000+00:002012-03-09T18:29:01.466+00:00Twilight (by Stephenie Meyer)- Book Review

My review- So, I'm reviewing Twilight.... but this won't be the same review that you have read from most teenage girls. Okay so I'll admit it, I enjoy the Twilight story, and the movies are my guilty-pleasure but I have struggled through the series because it just goes on, and on with pointless little details. I find them very boring at points, and it takes me months and months to finish them. I think that people are very quick to judge Twilight, but I do agree that it is incredibly stupid at times.

Need SIRI but don't have a 4S? This app might be taken down by Apple because it's too similar to SIRI! This app is amazing and i use it pretty much every day.
Pros: works a lot like SIRI, simple but amazing UI, you can type questions if you can't say them for whatever reason, it connects to Facebook, you can give feedback on how the recognition is working and there is a tutorial on how to use the app. Cons: this app goes through an alternative site (google i believe) therefore it is not as accurate as SIRI is, also there is no dictation feature like on SIRI so it is not as practical. Overall this is not an app that not only rivals vlingo but also scares Apple enough to make them want to take it off the app store and that is truly amazing.

Brief Synopsis-
Gil Pender is a nostalgic author visiting Paris with his controlling fiancee and unimpressable in-laws to be. Needing some time alone, Gil walks around the empty, late-night streets of Paris and right at midnight, he is invited into a mysterious vintage car. He is taken to a party and meets famous authors and artists from the twenties like the Fitzgeralds, Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso. Every night on his trip from then on, he visits the twenties and meets a stunning woman who has her own opinions on life and how to live it.
My Review-
Out of all the nine movies that I saw at the Oscar Best Picture Showcase, this was my favorite. It is so perfect even though the story is so simple. I, like many others, am nostalgic for another time and would love to have an experience like Gil does in this movie. I must warn you though, if you don't know who F. Scott Fitzgerald or Ernest Hemingway are, you probably won't enjoy this movie as much as I did. I went to see this with a friend and she couldn't stand it because she thought that they used to many big words and she only barely knew who Picasso was. But, if you like literature and comedy, you should check this movie out.
Do you have a jailbroken iDevice? If not the Pimp Your Screen home and lock screen customizer is just for you! This app has a large database of constantly updating images and makes cool effects for a non jail-broken device. Pros: app is cheap at £0.69 ($0.99), pictures have high quality, endless combinations and SHELVES! Cons: The picture is misleading let me explain: the app doesn't let you change the actual icon image just the background. Overall this is a good app at a nice price, even if the logo is slightly misleading.
Before we get started I want to say that there are many versions of this app and today I will be reviewing the UK & ROI version.

Ever want free satnav a bit like tomtom just.. well... free? then this is the app for you and better still, if you buy the add-free in-app purchase app £1.49 ($1.99) it is still cheaper than tomtom.

Pros: app is free, simple UI, you can get Snoop Dogg telling you where to go at £1.99 ($2.49), If you don't want your 3G going through the roof you can permanently buy the maps at £1.99, you can buy other countries in Europe at £1.99, you can also get anti-speed camera at £1.99. So you guessed it. They didn't have a very creative person at the pricing meeting.

Cons: if you don't purchase the maps it uses a lot of 3G ESPECIALLY whilst abroad, it seems there is currently a bug which means plugging your device into a car power source causes loss of map vision.

Overall this is amazing for a free app and it's definitely worth buying all the addons.
Brief Synopsis:
Hazel Grace Lancaster is a sixteen-year-old girl with terminal cancer. Pulled out of school at thirteen, she hardly ever socializes with anyone her age and spends most of her time alone in her room. After she is diagnosed with clinical depression, she is put in a support group for teens with cancer. There, she meets Augustus Waters, whom she soon falls for, and their lives have meaning again.

My Review:
This book is so amazing that I can hardly put it into my measly words. But as John Green's books have taught me, words can be the most beautiful things in the world. It is so heartwrenchingly beautiful and is the only book that has made me cry. But don't let that dicourage you; this book must be read by as many people as possible (even if you don't like reading) because it is just so brilliant. So please, give this book a chance. I promise it will be time well-spent.
Brief Synopsis-
A boy named Albert is given a horse by his father that he is expected to train. He names the horse Joey and teaches him how to plow and follow commands. But his father is desperate for money, and sells Joey to a young cavalry officer for World War I. The rest of the film takes you through Joey's life and carries you along as he experiences new things and meets new people.

My review-
I saw this movie during the Oscar Best Picture Showcase and was highly impressed. I don't usually care for horse movies or war movies but this one was really great. The music is beautiful and the cinematography is stunning. It is very emotional though, but not in the typical horse movie way. I won't give away spoilers, but the ending is very satisfying. I have recommended this movie to everyone I know and I suggest that you see it if you are looking for a movie to watch.
